A gunman killed 26 people at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. The gunman started shooting outside and then made his way inside the church. The gunman fled and was shot and pursued by an armed citizen. It is unclear whether the gunman intended to attack other churches as well. The gunman was later found dead in his car.
How Mayday Might Have Helped:
- A Mayday alert to all members of the church could have allowed them to close and lock the doors.
- Additional armed citizens could have been notified and come to help.
- Nearby churches could have received the message to lock-down and stay inside. This could have helped prevent additional attacks and also keep the roads clear for first responders.
